BassI'd prefer to show up to every gig with just an instrument and a cable. However, venues rarely have good enough (or sometimes ANY) equipment to make every instrument that comes along sound good. I tend to use as little as possible in my signal chain: - 60-100 year old (two luthiers' guesses) carved-top German upright or my Warwick FNA 5;
- Markbass Micromark combo amp is my basic setup for small gigs;
- Avalon U5 Class A Direct Box, but it's really big, so I usually will only take it along for louder gigs;
- Euphonic Audio iAMP 350 and 2 CXL-112 cabinets (with the EQ switched off!); and
- Headway EDB-1.
